Who We Are

Summerville Royal Family KIDS is affiliated with For the Children, an international nonprofit that organizes summer camp experiences and year-round mentoring for children with relational trauma. We are one camp of over 250 camps in 40 U.S. states—and more worldwide—that impact about 7,000 children each year.

We are extremely grateful to Calvary Chapel Summerville for hosting Royal Family KIDS for the 16th year in 2026.

Each year, campers are presented with a different theme through music and drama to convey that they are unconditionally loved by God and by the camp staff. Through the stories of Daniel, Esther, Joseph, and others, our campers learn how God loves and cares for all of us. The love for our campers is shown throughout an incredibly busy week, built for the success, encouragement, and fun of each camper.

Our campers enjoy swimming and the opportunity to make a tie-dye shirt or participate in team-building games. Everybody’s Birthday Party is always a highlight. Many of our campers have never blown out birthday candles or received a birthday present before. We celebrate them with water slide jump castles, pool parties, dunk tanks, music, and birthday cake for all. We host a tea party for the young ladies to give them the chance to dress up in high fashion and enjoy a special afternoon. Our young men enjoy a sports camp and the challenge of team-building exercises. Friday afternoon is the talent show where our campers express themselves through songs, skits, handshakes, or other talents that they often organize and produce in collaboration with each other. Afterward, campers drive back to town.

We’ve received tremendous feedback from caseworkers, caregivers, therapists and foster parents. However, our best feedback comes the following year. There is nothing like the Monday morning smile of a returning camper when they get off the bus to see the familiar face of their “cousin” (we say this at camp instead of “counselor”) waiting for them. Those smiles and the chance encounters between campers and counselors during the year let us know the impact we’re making. One week truly does make a difference in the lives of these kids.
